People who have neutral opinions on the beauty pageants say that they don't think the beauty pageants should be banned. But they say, in children beauty contests, children should have a choice to pick what they want to wear and whether they want make up. It means that children should not be dressed up like a doll if they don't want it. Also, some people claim that the beauty contests for the adults are okay, but the children beauty contests should be banned. Because the children beauty contests can make children think they have to be super pretty to win, or else they are losers. It can lead them to have emotional and spiritual damage. Others say that they are not against the beauty contests, but they think that it is wrong to have women uphold and image of perfectness.

Pros

People who are positive on the beauty pageant insist that the contest can definitely build up girl's confidence and independence. By showing off their charm and beauty on the stage, they can literally be the one who can make up their lack of shyness or passive attitudes. Through being in such a big contest with  other attractive competitiors,  applicants can be proud of themselves realizing that they deserve to do so. They are also arguing that it helps to chage the gril whose opportunity used to be inactive in a way.
                              Cons

People who disagree with Beauty pageant said it can make several social problems. It can give some concept about women. Beauty wowen should be  skinny and pretty. It only reflects not inside but outside.
Many women try to be like them, They focus on visual apprearance. so they want to get plastic surgery and be on a diet. It can cause plastic surgery addiction and eating disorder nowdays.
When they think children beauty pageant, some children don't want to participate in the pageant, some of them even don't  know what beauty is. They just obey their parents and it can make them think they have to be super pretty to win, or else you're a loser.

Pros
ThatOneGirl Not all pageants are "cakeface" pageants, I really think pageants have
helped become more sucessful and a more confident young women. It's a place for
young girls to perform their talents for a large croud and a place to learn more about
yourself and about what it takes to be a good role model for your state, and your
country. I think all-American, natural pageants are a great oppurtunity for young girls
that should be taken advantage of. 10/26/2010

Miranda Istre I personally have been in beauty pageants and have been crowned quit a
few times since i was 3 months old and it is not what you see on the tvs pageants or
not just about how eleogant a young lady looks but how that young lady carries her
self and how much work they do for their community. It also helps build confendence
for the child so he or she is not afraid to speak out in class or even get up infront of
people. 3/19/2010
jen i really don't think you should judge pageant contestants this harsh. the vast
majority of pageants have honestly turned into scholarship pageants rather than beauty
pageants. i enjoy competing in pageants and most of the girls i deal with are
intellectuals. I am a chemistry and russian major, musician, and honors student. i am
going to say i didn't win because of my bust size. with the exception of miss usa,
these are not meat shows. even miss usa isn't that bad, just foccused on models.

anna while i do agree that it does seem as if most pageant contestants are bubbly, thin
beauties with no idea except for the amount of calories they ate for the day. i used to
be one of the people who looked down on such events. i was entered by my mother
into the miss Iowa teen pageant. i had to fill out an application, giving the details of
my accomplishments and academic high points and goals. i had to sit in an interview
where i was intellectually challenged and judged. yes, i had to parade around in a
bathing suit, and had to show off an evening gown, but it was so much more than
that. the girls there were smart and funny and witty and involved and role models. i
think it's great that girls are aspiring to be healthy. 9/6/2007
penis buttsex how do child beauty pageants help young girls? 6/8/2007
christina Goswami reports bust size is what matters... how would you know??? 40% of
the score comes form interview swimsuit is only 15%
get real pageants are more than beauty 9/12/2006
beautyqueen Pageants are not all about being a size 0 and your bust size! In my
experience in pageantry, I have NEVER seen a woman or teen a size 0 and wear a size
C or D. And yes we worry about our figures but also we worry that judges see us as
young women that care about our community and the world we live in. That is the
most important thing. And I believe that if everyone looked at it like that, then I would
not have to voice my opinion on this topic that I basically work really hard for. Also,
keep this in mind, many of these girls do these pageants for scholarships, but most of
these girls are not made of money, so to enter these scholarship pageants most girls
get sponsors to help pay their way or they WORK like I do.So before you judge
anything, try it first, meet the people that are involved in it, and then decide your
opinion. 5/5/2006
Amy brown i think every single one of you are special 2/25/2006

Cons
Norma Thanks for all the facts . I do not agree with these pageants at all . I am not
skinny, I am not sexiest girl on the block , but I am talented , smart , confident , and
loving myself . So its sad to see these girls enter these contest with so much makeup
packed on , trying to fit all these rules , fixing themselves (surgercially) , doing
everything to impress judges . People say its harmless because they enjoy doing it . So
I guess its nature for women to be competitive and try to be the best? We should all
appriciate one another for our own beauty and flaws . Another excuse I hear often is
because of the money and scholarship . There is something called a job and many other
ways to get a scholarship . Even a bigger scholarship . I agree with you on the las
paragraph 10/22/2010
Kayla I disagreee about alllll of this! 6/11/2010
Cheese Beauty pageants just teach children to put on fake smiles and look pretty for
the judges, they don't learn to make friends or learn that there is more to a person
then there looks. they are so into there looks that they don't learn annything in life!
6/10/2010
Bobby Look at how the people that are in beauty pageants spell they don't even know
how to spell because they are so into their beauty pageants so they don't learn in
school! 6/10/2010
Nenny I think pageants are scary and sick for all girls. 5/12/2010
Malaina I think beauty pageants are not healthy for young children, because they make
you feel good about yourself just because of your looks. Not even about what matters.
So therefore I do NOT approve of pageants (: 5/12/2010
Jasmine I Think This Is Bull Everybody Knows That Beauty Pageants Are Harmful
And Should Be Banned 3/4/2010
Emma Metos Their plain ugly. It's a form of child abuse and should be stopped. Not
only are girls being damaged mentally, but they are also being introduced to sexual
predators. IT IS CHILD ABUSE! 2/9/2010
Betha I think children shouldnt be in pagents it hurts there fellings if they lose and it
makes them grow up to soon ;) 10/26/2009
zoe and christi i would have written about what you said but i do not have the time to
read that much. my god, how much spare time do you have you loser? just write a
paragraph or something like us! oh, and zoe and christie are hot. we could win a beauty
pageant :) 8/31/2008
dont listen pageants, well, what can i say about pageants, other than they are bad
3/3/2008
Im in the band Pagents are super bad because they give people unrealistic views on
how girls should be, but people are different and shouldnt have to follow the stereotype
just to fit in, it can cause depression and eating disorders, in general its bad!
 3/3/2008
k hi these are bad 3/3/2008
Masterdebater i personally think they are a bad idea, it gets kids or teens to have
eating disorders and think greater of them selves
 3/3/2008
emma beauty paegents are wrong 1/15/2008
Judy Jeenarine ...and of course because of the male dominant societies and women still
being treated like chattels, this show of hips, breast and behinds will go on, until
women are truly free, and gain some of the powers that men feel belong to men alone.

melissa hey LADY
i am doing a essay on whether children beauty pageants are beneficail to young girls
and women .
and well ive come to the conclusion that they are not good at all .
and should be stopped .
i understahnd worrying about how you look .
because i go through thiseveryday and hour of my life .
my gosh .
but ,
we have to draw the line somwhere .
and ,
when i was 5- to even 10
i didnt care what i looked like .
and that was nice .
we shouldnt be taking those carefree days abaway from little girls .

angela I think that they should not be banned. but the children should have a choice to
be put in them, and if they dont want to dont pressure them to do it. and they should
be able to pick what they want to wear, and make there own choices! & oh,and they
also should'nt C A K E that makeup on. gosh,they arn't old enough for all that. i think
they should have a choice to what they want to do. (:
- my own opinion,i have nothing against you guys or pagents . 5/26/2010
Maddie It depends. I mean, you shouldn't make them like a little dress up doll. For
example, don't put pounds of makeup on them, fake hair, flippers, or spray tanning.
That just makes them someone they're not. Plus, it makes them think you have to be
super pretty to win, or else you're a loser. So, overall, NO. No matter how much I love
watching Little Miss Perfect xD 2/3/2010
kanika that people have a freedom of choice but they should still have to be a certain
age, to prevent emotional and spiritual damage 5/29/2008
amanda Uhmm i think that they are bad when you are too little, like there are 6 year
old's doing this and wearing tuns of makeup?!?!?! 4/2/2008
sarah scott i agree with many of the comments 3/27/2008
i_know_i'm_hot! thats what the pageants rely on... that more young women are as naive
(and pretty) as u R! cuz if u were naive and smart like urself but ugly do u really
think u'd have a chance in a pageant? 10/26/2007
i_know_i'm_hot! as for jen, do u really think they care if u major in chem and russian?
10/26/2007
i_know_i'm_hot! ok. so u eneter a beauty pageant. u do all the interviews and stuff. the
big day is here. what it all boils down to is a woman (girl) parading around in a
bathsuit! that is the "make or break" moment no matter what anybody says. why do u
think the pageants started at the poolside? because the male judges cared primarily
about the bust size! like duh! and lets say u win. u get the scholarship and a lot more.
umm.. maybe its just me but isnt that prostitution? parading in teeny-tiny clothes to
get money? its not right, no matter how much scholarships and charities thrown in to
justify the degrading act. 10/26/2007
Jenna i am not against beauty pagents at all nor the women, but i think that it is
wrong to have women uphold and image of perfectness. 2/8/2007

Is it wrong to emphasize beauty in society in contests?

Beauty pageants in general may cause these sorts of issues such as poor self-image, low self-esteem and even eating disorders. They are especially prevalent in children who begin to compete at an age when they are not emotionally ready to handle all of the things that come with the territory. A beauty pageant is very competitive and often sparks jealousy among the other contestants. An older contestant may realize that this jealousy is simply sparked out of their opponents’ desire to win. A four-year-old probably just thinks the other kids don’t like her. This may make this child start to not like themselves. This is also true if a child doesn’t win a pageant. Children are taught it’s important to do your best. What if you give your best and you lose? Does this mean that you are just not good enough? What if pageant after pageant you compete and give one hundred percent of yourself but still turn out to be the loser? As to the female, beauty contests encourage them to get the plastic surgeries and go on a diet to be looked attractive as the girls on the beauty contests. As you cna guess from the pictures above, in the end, the beauty contests could lead the female to the extremely disasterous results such as anorexia, addiction to being on a diet and getting plastic surgeries. Thus, the beauty contests influence our society greatly, and that's why we would like to investigate this topic more deeply.

it has been a controversial topic. Check this website.
we are not sure that which is right or not.

Here are some opinions about it.

1. the good points of being judged by beauty

Human beings are social animals, and we must judge one another immediately the first time by our outer appearance, since the outer appearance is easy to know quickly. The need to be judged and understood quickly by your appearance has increased as modern society developed and we started meeting more and more people and becoming busier and busier.

The result is not just that beautiful people with better DNA get better treatment. Just looking good does not make you successful; you are only judged AT FIRST by your appearance, and after that, the content of what you say and do is more important.

But even getting judged by your beauty is not so bad. Anyone can be beautiful if they make some effort. Some will always be more beautiful than others, and if some people hate themselves because they are not the most beautiful, then they have a personality disorder which should be treated by a psychologist.

But if beauty pageants promote judgment and competition of beauty, then GOOD, because we need at least SOME of that. If we have it, then all people can improve their beauty, and get a better first reaction from others.
The way to do this, is thinking about make-up and fashion, and cool gestures. This is fun, since it is an art. What is wrong with making this wolrd more beautiful to the eye? It is also useful; King Louis the XVI's favorite courtesan was described by all who knew her as having an ugly face, but she was very charming thanks to her developing her own style, manners, and unique fashion.
So, why shouldn't women enjoy the freedom to choose to judged as a sex object if that is what she wants?
--------------------
2. Beauty pageants are harmful for a number of reasons.

The first reason is that it dehumanizes women. The other debater already admitted that women participating in beauty pageants turn themselves into sex objects. He then argues that its okay because its their choice to turn themselves into objects. Even if its their choice, its still harmful for a couple of reasons. The first is that just because they have a right to participate in beauty pageants does not mean that their participation causes more good than harm. I have the right to slowly drink myself to death, to hit myself in the head with a hammer, and any number of other self-destructive activities that would certainly cause more harm than good, despite my choosing to participate in those activities. Just because they choose to turn themselves into objects does not mean its a good thing they did.
Secondly, beauty pageant contestants don't just turn themselves into sexual objects, they turn all women into sexual objects. Beauty pageants contestants actively participate in and perpetuate in a system that turns women into objects to be rated and then possessed. Even if the contestants are okay with being objects, they will not be the only ones treated as such. Beauty pageant contestants actively and explicitly support a societal norm, a way of viewing women, that extends beyond them and to women in general. So even if its their choice to turn themselves into dehumanized sex objects, they turn all other women into them too.

beauty pageant

As we can assume from the video clip, there is phenomena considering beauty as the most important factor in one's life. It is true that appearance does judge people's first impression and affect on relationship. However, it is somewhat getting exaggerated on the meaning of the beauty thesedays. Only a five-year-old girl is being surpressed on how to makeup and dispay oneself like celebrities, instead of playing in the playground with her friends freely. What makes this into an extreme situation? Lying importance on the beauty than any other elements, it truly seems problematic if we think of the abuse of plastic surgeries and its side-effect. Surely, beauty pageant has its own promising meaning, but we need to take time to how it influenced public.
